Brazilian Grand Prix What to Watch

With only two races remaining in the 2016 Formula One World Championship, the Brazilian Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend at Sao Paulo's storied Autódromo José Carlos Pace, also known as Interlagos, is in penultimate place.

It is very much Nico Rosberg's to lose the championship. Lewis Hamilton, his Mercedes AMG colleague, is 19 points ahead of him, so if Hamilton wins the Brazilian race and the Abu Dhabi final, he still has a chance to win the championship. All Rosberg needs to do is finish second both times.

Rosberg will undoubtedly be crowned champion on Sunday if he wins the Brazilian race, like he has done the previous two times. It will be Rosberg's first title; in 1982, his father, Keke Rosberg, won the title.

The race on Sunday should be fascinating. Both teams and supporters love Interlagos. The 2.6-mile track, which staged its first grand prix in 1973, is among the oldest in Formula One. Despite changes and safety improvements since then, it has maintained much of its original character.

Because of its flimsy foundations, the track develops bumps over time and is named Interlagos because it is situated on marshland between two lakes. The pavement has already grown uneven despite only being repaired two years ago. Numerous microscopic fractures also emerge as a result of the surface's change, which improves grip levels.

The unpredictable weather is one thing to be aware of here. Because of the circuit's undulations, wet patches will quickly emerge at different spots along the lap if it rains, which is typical for the Brazilian event. At the turn 3 exit, where several automobiles have already turned, the water depth is very terrible. According to the current weather forecast, rain is expected all weekend long.

Rosberg leads the 2016 Drivers' Championship with 349 points heading into the weekend. Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull Racing sits in third place with 242 points, while Hamilton is in second place with 330 points. The 2016 champion Mercedes has 679 points in the Constructors' Championship, compared to Red Bull's 422 and Ferrari's 370.

In other F1 news, Haas has confirmed Kevin Magnussen for 2017. Magnussen was replaced at Renault by Nico Hülkenberg. In the American squad, he will drive alongside Romain Grosjean after Esteban Gutierrez leaves. Esteban Ocon, a current driver for Manor, will take Hülkenberg's place at Force India. Williams has stated that Lance Stroll, a young Canadian, will take Felipe Massa's place as he retires.

WEATHER FORECAST

According to UBIMET, the FIA's official meteorological partner, rain is still a possibility for all three days in Sao Paulo.

As of this writing, AccuWeather reports that there is a 70% probability of precipitation on Sunday. Friday's high temperature is 28 degrees Celsius, with Saturday and Sunday seeing drops to 24 and 22 degrees, respectively.

The final wet race in Brazil took place in 2012; it was a frantic race that was ultimately won by Jenson Button of McLaren after Hamilton, his teammate at the time, collided with Nico Hulkenberg.
