Formula One United States Grand Prix 2018 What to Watch

At this weekend's United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, teams will shift their attention from the Eastern to the Western hemispheres in Round 18 of the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship.

Because it was built with Formula One in mind, COTA has already established itself as a track that can showcase F1 vehicles at their finest, even if it is one of the more recent venues on the F1 calendar.

The 3.43-mile course, in particular, features 20 unique curves, some of which are reminiscent of ones found on current and former Formula One circuits. This circuit is extremely difficult for teams and drivers because it has more fast corners than Spa-Francorchamps and more slow turns than the Hungaroring.

This time of year, unpredictable weather can also be a problem. Thankfully, the weather is looking favorable for the most part. Saturday's qualifying is expected to see some rain, but Sunday's race is expected to see generally fine conditions.

Furthermore, there is the breathtaking ascent that leads to the blind first corner. Cars lining up on the muddy side of the grid have a harder time getting traction than at any other circuit, so the start may be intriguing. For the weekend, Pirelli has nominated its soft, supersoft, and ultrasoft compounds.

Due to the large difference between the top two drivers, the 2018 title is almost over, despite the fact that there are still a number of races left. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes-AMG just needs to surpass Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari by seven points to win the 2018 Drivers' Championship.

Hamilton has 331 points heading into the weekend, compared to Vettel's 264 and fellow Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas' 207. Mercedes leads the Constructors' Championship with 538 points, ahead of Ferrari with 460 and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing with 319. Hamilton, who was driving for Mercedes, won in Austin the previous year.
