Formula One Italian Grand Prix 2019 What to Watch

Charles Leclerc of Ferrari was the fastest driver at the Italian Grand Prix's first practice (FP1) on Friday morning.

Leclerc set the pace with a time of 1m 27.905s to end the practice ahead of McLaren's Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris, despite the inclement conditions and numerous crashes that hindered the drivers at Monza. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes finished fourth fastest.

Following their season-opening victory at the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend, Ferrari enters their home event with confidence.

Leclerc is thrilled to be competing in Monza in front of Ferrari's devoted supporters, known as the Tifosi, after his incredible drive at Spa earned him his first Formula 1 victory.

Leclerc remarked, "I think that visiting Monza last year was one of the best experiences of my life." "Despite the fact that I wasn't a Ferrari driver, the support I received was incredible."

Silver Arrows drivers Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are ranked first and second in the drivers' standings, while Mercedes leads Ferrari by 145 points in the constructors' title.

In Italy, world champion Hamilton will be looking to win for the sixth time in his career.

Even though they broke their season duck in Spa last weekend, Ferrari is aware that it will be difficult to win the Italian Grand Prix.

The Scuderia must have a flawless weekend at Monza, according to team principal Mattia Binotto.

"The victory in Spa is significant for our supporters; hopefully, many will come to Monza to cheer us on," he stated. We've seen that in order to win, we must do everything flawlessly, including the drivers themselves, the team management, the start, and the qualifying.

Following an agreement between Formula One and the Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI), the Italian Grand Prix will continue to take place in Monza until at least 2024.

"There are 22 races, but only one Monza and one Italian audience," stated Chase Carey, the head of Formula One.

In Italy, there are three full practice (FP) periods. FP1 and FP2 are scheduled for Friday, September 6 from 10 to 11.30 a.m. and 2 to 3.30 p.m., respectively. FP3 will take place on Saturday, September 7, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. UK at all times.
