Formula One United States Grand Prix 2019 What to Watch

The 41st United States Grand Prix will take place in Austin, Texas, this weekend as part of the 2019 Formula One World Championship. Though not all of them were taken into account for the championship, there have been 69 Formula One races contested in the United States. Two of those even took place in the Caesars Palace parking lot in Las Vegas.

Today, the Circuit of the Americas serves as a dedicated home for the U.S. race.

Because it was expressly created with Formula One in mind, COTA has already established itself as a track capable of showcasing F1 vehicles at their finest, even though it is one of the more recent venues on the Formula One calendar (the inaugural race was held there in 2012).

The 3.43-mile course, in particular, features 20 unique curves, some of which are reminiscent of ones found on current and former Formula One circuits. This circuit is extremely difficult for teams and drivers because it has more fast corners than Spa-Francorchamps and more slow turns than the Hungaroring. Turn 1's uphill hairpin, however, is clearly COTA's hallmark corner.

Here, unpredictable weather might be a problem. According to the prediction, Austin should see pleasant but mild weather all weekend long. Pirelli's C2, C3, and C4 compounds have been shortlisted. It's interesting to note that teams will experience Pirelli's 2020 tires for the first time during Friday's practice session.

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes-AMG is likely to be resting his head before the race on Sunday and the qualifying session on Saturday. Hamilton just has to finish eighth, or ninth with the fastest lap bonus, to win the championship, even if fellow Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas wins in Austin.

With 363 points, Hamilton leads the 2019 Drivers' Championship, followed by Bottas (289) and Charles Leclerc (236) of Ferrari. Mercedes currently holds 652 points and has already won the Constructors' Championship. Aston Martin Red Bull Racing is in third place with 341 points, followed by Ferrari in second place with 466 points. Kimi Raikkonen, who was driving for Ferrari, won in Austin last year.
