Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021 What to Watch

The two lone competitors for the title enter the last round of the 2021 Formula One World Championship on an even playing field this weekend in Abu Dhabi.

With an identical 369.5 points, either Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing or Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes-Benz AMG will be crowned world champion on Sunday.

Verstappen is seeking his first championship, while Hamilton is aiming for a record seventh. Given the tight clashes between Verstappen and Hamilton in the previous rounds, it suggests that this year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix should be a fierce race.

Every year, the Yas Marina Circuit hosts the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which is an annual round. Although certain adjustments have been made this year to enhance the action, the Hermann Tilke-designed circuit is one of the more recent venues on the schedule, having opened in 2009.

A straight has taken the position of the chicane that was previously creating Turns 5 and 6. Additionally, the next hairpin has been expanded and moved forward, allowing drivers to accelerate into the next straight. The four tight corners that formerly formed Turns 17–20 have all been opened up and made faster toward the conclusion, and the sequence of tight bends that made up Turns 11–14 has been replaced with a long, slightly banked curve.

In addition to increasing overtaking chances, the modifications should boost loads and speeds at certain turns.

However, Pirelli has chosen to designate its three softest compounds—the C3 as the P Zero White hard, the C4 as the P Zero Yellow medium, and the C5 as the P Zero Red soft—because the circuit will still be smooth and the tires will have average wear and degradation.

According to the weather forecast, the weekend will be pleasant and dry. To avoid the heat of the day, the Abu Dhabi race, like other events in the Middle East, begins at twilight and continues into the night.

Hamilton and Verstappen are tied for 369.5 points in the 2021 Drivers' Championship going into tomorrow's qualifying session and Sunday's race. Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas is in third place with 218 points. Mercedes leads the Constructors' Championship with 587.5 points, followed by Red Bull with 559.5 and Ferrari with 307.5. Verstappen drove for Red Bull and won in Abu Dhabi last year.
