Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2022 What to Watch
Even though Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing was crowned champion in the previous Japanese round, the race for second place is still very much alive going into this weekend's last round of the 2022 Formula One World Championship in Abu Dhabi.
Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and Sergio Perez of Red Bull are both on 290 points into this final round. And depending on how the race turns out, either Mercedes-Benz AMG or Ferrari might finish second in the Constructors' Championship.
Verstappen won his contentious debut championship in Abu Dhabi one year ago. The event is held every year at the Yas Marina Circuit, one of the more recent venues on the schedule, which was created by Hermann Tilke and opened in 2009.
There are 16 corners and a few fast portions within the 3.23-mile track circuit. Cars and drivers are exposed to lateral acceleration of up to 4 g and speeds exceeding 155 mph at the first turn, which marks the beginning of a flowing series of bends. The final sector is tight and twisty and really puts a strain on the tires, followed by two very lengthy straights in the middle portion.
For the weekend, Pirelli has designated its C3 as the White hard, C4 as the Yellow medium, and C5 as the Red soft.
According to the weather forecast, the weekend will be pleasant and dry. To avoid the heat of the day, the Abu Dhabi race, like other events in the Middle East, begins at twilight and continues into the night.
With the race on Sunday and the qualifying session tomorrow, Verstappen leads the Drivers' Championship by 429 points. Leclerc is now rated second because he has more victories this season, even though he and Perez both have 290 points. Red Bull has 719 points in the Constructors' Championship, compared to Ferrari's 524 and Mercedes' 505.
Sebastian Vettel of Aston Martin was also let go by Formula One this year. In July, the four-time world champion declared that he would retire from Formula One following the current season, capping a career that began in 2007.
