Formula One Dutch Grand Prix 2022 What to Watch

This weekend's Round 15 of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship will be held at the iconic Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands, which is surrounded by dunes on the North Sea coast.

After more than thirty years, the Dutch Grand Prix made a successful comeback to the Formula One calendar in 2021, in part because to the challenging conditions at Circuit Zandvoort. The circuit is well-liked because of its dramatic elevation changes and banked turns, which heighten the theater experience.

The circuit is only 2.64 miles long, and because of its closeness to the sea, strong onshore gusts often force the cars to handle poorly and fill the track with sand, which makes it difficult to get a grip.

Additionally, it is winding and narrow, making overtaking difficult. This implies that good qualification is essential.

Power units rest here because the straights aren't very lengthy. Tires don't wear down as much as they would at other tracks because many of the corners are flowing. For the teams to use, Pirelli has designated its C1 compound as the White hard, C2 as the Yellow medium, and C3 as the Red soft.

Automobiles usually have a strong downforce configuration. Actually, the only races with higher downforce setups are those in Monaco and Hungary. Drivers can modify their cars' aerodynamics to make them more slick for passing in two Drag Reduction System (DRS) zones on the main straight and between turns 10 and 11.

Clear skies are predicted for the race on Sunday as well as the qualifying session on Saturday.

Following a first practice session on Friday, George Russell of Mercedes-Benz AMG was the fastest, surpassing teammate Lewis Hamilton. Max Verstappen, the local favorite and current world champion, was the fastest in the beginning, but his Red Bull stopped on the circuit due to what appeared to be a gearbox problem.

Verstappen leads the 2022 Drivers' Championship with 284 points heading into the weekend. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari sits in third place with 186 points, followed by fellow Red Bull driver Sergio Perez in second place with 191 points. Red Bull has 475 points in the Constructors' Championship, compared to Ferrari's 357 and Mercedes' 316. Verstappen, who drove for Red Bull, won the Dutch Grand Prix the previous year.
