Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix 2022 What to Watch

This weekend, Formula 1 heads to Budapest, the capital of Hungary, for round 13 of the 2022 season, which is the last race before the summer vacation.

The Hungaroring, a 2.7-mile circuit that is extremely winding and undulating, hosts the Hungarian Grand Prix every year. It features a number of medium and slow speed turns that force drivers to rely on mechanical grip. Because of this, tire management is especially crucial. According to Pirelli, its C2 is the White hard, its C3 is the Yellow medium, and its C4 is the Red soft.

It is challenging to pass; the first sector, at the end of the main straight, offers the best opportunity of a successful move. Before the track rises towards the second sector, the vehicles brake into a challenging downhill right-hander, which is quickly followed by two more bends.

The Hungaroring's demand on the gearbox is one of its features; each lap necessitates 78 gear changes, for a total of 3,710 changes over the race. The eighth gear is only used to conserve fuel, while the third through sixth gears endure the most strain.

The extreme heat that Hungary is experiencing at this time of year presents another difficulty, this time for drivers. Thankfully, this year's weather is predicted to be calmer, however Saturday's qualifying session is predicted to see some rain, and Sunday's race may see some light showers.

Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing leads the 2022 Drivers' Championship with 233 points heading into the weekend. Sergio Perez of Red Bull is in third place with 163 points, followed by Charles Leclerc of Ferrari in second place with 170 points. Red Bull leads the Constructors' Championship with 396 points, followed by Ferrari with 314 and Mercedes-Benz AMG with 270. Esteban Ocon, who drove for Alpine, won in Hungary last year.
