Formula One United States Grand Prix 2023 What to Watch

This weekend, the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, will host the United States Grand Prix, Round 19 of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship. The event is the first of a tripleheader in North America that includes races in Mexico and Brazil in the upcoming weeks, and the second of three races in the United States this season.

Designed especially with Formula One racing in mind, the Circuit of the Americas is one of the premier circuits on the calendar, having a 3.4-mile course with 20 corners. A few of its bends are similar to those seen on current and former Formula One courses.

The circuit is extremely difficult for teams and drivers because it has more fast corners than Spa-Francorchamps and more slow turns than the Hungaroring.

The mid-range tire compounds that Pirelli has nominated for the weekend are the C2 (white hard), C3 (yellow medium), and C4 (red soft).

Watching the U.S. Grand Prix is always entertaining, and this year's addition of the Sprint race on Saturday and the main race on Sunday adds even more action. Previously, the Sprint race served as a qualifying event for the main race, but this season it is now a stand-alone event. Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen won the 2023 Drivers' title before the main race at the previous round in Qatar since it still has championship points available for both drivers and teams.

The competition for second place is still fierce, and there are still records that could be broken, even though the 2023 championship may already be determined.

Verstappen's 14th victory of the season came in the Qatar round as well. With five races left on the schedule, he is on track to beat his own record of 15 wins in a single season, which he set last year. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes-Benz AMG is currently in third place, with just 30 points separating him from teammate Red Bull driver Sergio Perez in second place.

Verstappen has an unstoppable 433 points in the 2023 Drivers' Championship going into the weekend. Hamilton has 194 points, while Perez has 224. At the Japanese Grand Prix, Red Bull was declared the Constructors' Championship champion. As of right now, the team has 623 points. Ferrari sits in third place with 285 points, followed by Mercedes in second place with 305 points. Verstappen, who drives for Red Bull, won in Texas last year.
