Formula One Miami Grand Prix 2023 What to Watch

This weekend is the Miami Grand Prix, the first of three U.S. races on the 2023 Formula 1 schedule. Races in Austin, Texas, and Las Vegas will follow it later in the season.

Now in its second year, the Miami race is being hosted at the Miami International Autodrome, a temporary circuit situated within the Hard Rock Stadium complex, which is home to the Miami Dolphins.

In comparison to other circuits, the track has a high top speed; the only ones predicted to experience higher speeds are the Italian, Mexican, and new Las Vegas grand prix.

It has three DRS zones, 19 low-speed and high-speed turns, and a total length of 3.36 miles. In comparison to regular, permanent racetracks, it is also somewhat constrained in certain areas, especially in the third sector.

Teams will not be able to predict grip levels due to the new surface. The C2 is the White hard tire compound, the C3 is the Yellow medium tire compound, and the C4 is the Red soft tire compound. Pirelli has nominated these mid-range tire compounds for use in the race.

In addition, rumble strips and several of the barriers' locations have changed from the previous year.

Although the current prognosis calls for great weather over the weekend, the weather on the Miami shore is highly variable. It is anticipated that the ambient temperature will rise over 86 degrees.

With 93 points heading into Saturday's qualifying session and Sunday's race, Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing is leading the 2023 Drivers' Championship. Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin sits in third place with 60 points, while fellow Red Bull driver Sergio Perez is not far behind with 87 points. Red Bull has 180 points in the Constructors' Championship, compared to Aston Martin's 87 and Mercedes-Benz AMG's 76. Verstappen, who was driving for Red Bull, won in Miami the previous year.
