Formula One French Grand Prix 2022 What to Watch
The current site of the French Grand Prix, Circuit Paul Ricard near Marseille, France, will host Round 12 of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship this weekend.
One of the world's oldest auto events is the French Grand Prix. The French Grand Prix, which translates to "Big Prize," was the first Grand Prix in the history of motorsports, and it took place in 1906. The initial grand prize was 45,000 francs, or 28.6 pounds of gold at the time.
After a 10-year hiatus, the French race made a comeback to the current Formula One calendar in 2018. It takes place at Circuit Paul Ricard on a 3.6-mile version of the track. There are fifteen corners in this edition, and the first sector is the quickest and offers the best chances for overtaking, particularly when braking into Turns 1 and 3.
The power unit is the focus of the second sector, which includes the Mistral straight, which is broken up by a chicane to slow down the entry speed into Signes, one of the calendar's quickest corners.
In the third and last sector, where there are several medium speed bends between Turns 11 and 15, aerodynamics become more significant. The main straight and the first segment of the Mistral straight are the two DRS zones.
Avoiding going off the track is highly recommended since the distinctive red, white, and blue tricolor markings contain a high-friction substance that slows cars down rapidly and increases the chance of flat spots on the tires. Red soft is the C4, Yellow medium is the C3, and White hard is the C2, according to Pirelli's nominations.
With temperatures predicted to reach 104 degrees, the race weekend is predicted to be the warmest of the season thus far, making things challenging for the drivers and teams. Teams should be aware that it may also cause some thermal deterioration of the tires.
With 208 points heading into Saturday's qualifying session and Sunday's race, Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing is leading the 2022 Drivers' Championship. Sergio Perez of Red Bull is in third place with 151 points, followed by Charles Leclerc of Ferrari in second place with 170 points. With 359 points, Red Bull leads the Constructors' Championship, followed by Ferrari with 303 points and Mercedes-Benz AMG with 237 points. Verstappen drove for Red Bull and won in France last year.
