Formula One Australian Grand Prix 2024 What to Watch

This weekend, the third round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship begins in Melbourne, Australia.

A popular event on the calendar, the Australian Grand Prix has been the season's first round for years. This year, there has already been some activity before the race.

Williams' Alex Albon will now spend the rest of the weekend using his colleague Logan Sargeant's vehicle after he crashed his own during a practice on Friday. Since the squad doesn't have a backup vehicle and Albon's automobile is too badly damaged to be repaired, Sargeant will have to miss work.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz returns in Melbourne after missing the last Saudi Arabian Grand Prix because of surgery for appendicitis, while Sargeant is sidelined. Oliver Bearman, the Ferrari reserve driver who replaced Sainz, finished a good eighth and was able to gain some points.

Albert Park track, a street track that has been on the Formula One calendar since 1996, is the site of the Australian Grand Prix. The present layout has 14 turns and is 3.28 miles long.

According to these measurements, the Albert Park Circuit is the third-highest circuit on the calendar, with 72% of the lap time and 79% of the lap distance spent at full speed. At just over 900 feet, the circuit also boasts the shortest pit lane on the calendar, which means that drivers only spend roughly 13 seconds in the pit lane.

Although Melbourne's weather may be unpredictable, the current prediction predicts both Saturday's qualifying and Sunday's race to be generally sunny with warm temperatures. The C3 is the white hard tire, the C4 is the yellow medium tire, and the C5 is the red soft tire. This is a change from the previous year.

Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing leads the 2024 Drivers' Championship with 51 points heading into the weekend. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari sits in third place with 28 points, followed by fellow Red Bull driver Sergio Perez in second place with 36 points. Red Bull leads the Constructors' Championship with 87 points, ahead of McLaren's 28 and Ferrari's 49. Verstappen, who drives for Red Bull, was the winner in Melbourne last year.
