Formula One Spanish Grand Prix 2021 What to Watch

This weekend, the well-known Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which is currently the site of the Spanish Grand Prix, will host round four of the 2021 Formula One World Championship.

Since the circuit has been on the schedule since 1991, teams and drivers are familiar with it. Winter testing is typically held there as well, though this year it was canceled due to COVID-19.

Teams and drivers must contend with a slightly altered course this year. Turn 10, a very strong braking point where drivers frequently lock up their wheels, is where the changes occur. A greater speed through the turn is now possible due to the expansion of the radius. Additionally, it lengthens the track by roughly 65 feet, making it 2.9 miles long overall.

The remainder of the circuit offers a true test of a car's capabilities with a combination of high, medium, and low speed corners, multiple direction changes, some climbs and drops, and a lengthy straight. Drivers have a number of excellent overtaking opportunities, and tire strategy is always crucial.

For the weekend, Pirelli has nominated its C1, C2, and C3 compounds.

According to the weather, Saturday's qualifying should be great, but there may be some rain on Sunday.

Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes-Benz AMG was the fastest after the early practice on Friday. Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing and Lewis Hamilton, another Mercedes driver, were not far behind him.

Hamilton leads the 2021 Drivers' Championship with 69 points heading into the weekend. With 61 points, Verstappen is in second place, and Lando Norris of McLaren is in third place with 37 points. Mercedes leads the Constructors' Championship with 101 points, followed by Red Bull with 83 and McLaren with 53. Hamilton, racing for Mercedes, won in Spain last year.
