Formula One 70th Anniversary Grand Prix 2020 What to Watch

Following the thrilling British Grand Prix last weekend, Formula 1 will return to Silverstone for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, round five of the 2020 championship. named in honor of the British Grand Prix, the first Formula One race, which was held at Silverstone on May 13th, about 70 years ago.

Alfa Romeo driver Nino Farina, who later became the first F1 World Champion, won that inaugural championship. The sole car on the grid for tomorrow's 70th Anniversary Grand Prix is Alfa Romeo, who also participated in the inaugural event.

Last weekend, Lewis Hamilton of Britain created history by becoming the only driver to win the Grand Prix at home seven times. Red Bull's Max Verstappen produced the fastest lap and reduced the British driver's 30-second advantage, causing tire-bursting drama in the final laps as Hamilton counted down the final bends. Despite having a torn front tire, Hamilton managed to hang on and cross the finish line. Not so fortunate was Valterri Bottas, a Mercedes colleague, who finished outside the top 10 after his front left tire burst, sending him to the pits.

This weekend, Bottas is making a big comeback and will start tomorrow's 70th Anniversary Grand Prix on pole position.

Nico Hulkenberg, Racing Point's backup driver, will start from third place, while Hamilton will start in second. Sergio Perez, who missed his second Grand Prix after testing positive for COVID-19, will be replaced by Hulkenberg.

George Russell of Williams will start in 15th place, followed by McLaren's Lando Norris in P10.

In light of the dramatic conclusion of the British Grand Prix, the teams will probably choose to use a two-stop racing strategy for tomorrow's race due to the softer tires.

Although this is the first time the Northamptonshire venue has hosted a World Championship round other than the British Grand Prix, tomorrow's event marks the 55th FIA Formula 1 World Championship round to be conducted at Silverstone.

Tomorrow, August 9, at 14:10, the Formula 1 Emirates 70th Anniversary Grand Prix gets underway.
