Formula One British Grand Prix 2022 What to Watch

This weekend, Formula 1 will go to the storied Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom for the British Grand Prix, Round 10 of the 2022 season.

On the Formula One calendar, the British round is always one of the favorites. It's a result of Silverstone's past, the fans' expertise and racing culture, the unpredictability of the weather, and the fact that many teams have local bases.

In 1950, Silverstone hosted the first Formula One race. Although Aintree and Brands Hatch swapped hosting responsibilities for the British Grand Prix in subsequent years, Silverstone is still the race's official home.

Since the first race, the track's layout has undergone numerous revisions. The most notable of them was in 2010, when a new infield section was added to the previous perimeter layout.

The present 3.66-mile course is one of the quickest laps on the calendar and a favorite among drivers because of its fast straights and sweeping, high-speed bends. Teams therefore try to minimize drag as much as they can. As a result, the wing settings will be comparable to those at the Canadian and Azerbaijan rounds.

Pirelli has selected the hardest tires in the lineup: C1 as the White hard, C2 as the Yellow medium, and C3 as the Red soft. This is because Silverstone is one of the tracks that requires the most energy from tires. This combination has received nominations three times this season.

Two tire changes won the race last year, one of which happened during an early red flag period after Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes-Benz AMG and Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing collided.

As previously stated, the weather is likewise subject to significant fluctuations. According to the weather forecast, Sunday's race should be dry, but Saturday's qualifying could see some rain.

Verstappen leads the 2022 Drivers' Championship with 175 points heading into the weekend. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari sits in third place with 126 points, followed by fellow Red Bull driver Sergio Perez in second place with 129 points. Red Bull leads the Constructors' Championship with 304 points, followed by Ferrari with 228 and Mercedes with 188. Hamilton, who was racing for Mercedes, won the British Grand Prix the previous year.
